How to Choose a Sand Blasting Machine
Sandblasting is a unique cleaning method. What makes it a different cleaning method is the fact that it propels off the small particles of dirt with high pressure/velocity through the sandblasting hose. This cleaning method is sometimes referred to as abrasive grit blasting.
Not all kinds of surfaces can use sandblasting as a cleaning method. The best scenario where you can apply this method is when you are preparing a surface before applying fresh paint or coat. You need to consider several factors before you purchase a sandblaster. Here are some things that you need to look for in sandblasting equipment.
The Type of the Sandblaster
This should always be the first thing to consider when purchasing blasting equipment. The three main types of sandblasters are the siphon, the gravity-fed, and pressure sandblaster. The gravity-fed machine uses gravity to operate.
A container is usually attached on top of the gun with sand inside it which is used for blasting. The siphon sandblaster is similar to the gravity one, but the container is situated below the nozzle. The pressure sandblaster uses highly pressurized sand canisters to perform its duties.
Ease of Use
Consider buying equipment that is not only easy to set up and control but also easy to maintain. Consider things such as the presence of fixed pot pressure and sandblasting hose that is easy to adjust making it easier to operate the sandblaster while providing continuous blast pressure. You should also purchase a robust device that is easy to maintain.
Check whether the manufacturer stocks frequently needed parts before you buy the equipment to avoid problems in future when the machine breaks down. You should also check whether there is a contractor located close to you who can repair the equipment.
Blast Performance
Another critical factor that you need to consider is the blast performance. Find the equipment with desired blast circuit that will meet your needs. Today, the wet and vapor sandblasting machines can easily match the performance of any dry sandblaster while using little resources.
Ideally, you should go for a device that can offer smooth workflow for minimal pressure drop and which can comfortably handle both the high and low-pressure applications. You should buy equipment that has slightly higher than the required maximum blast pressure.
The Size of the Blaster
The size of the machine will matter if you are planning to take it out to a project site other than just for home use. The sandblasters come in three different sizes; the mini, large, and industry-standard blasters.
The mini blasters are small in size and portable and are specially designed to work well with the hard to reach areas. The large and industry-standard sandblasters are large and cover larger areas. Critically evaluate your needs before you choose your desired equipment.
