The 12th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) is about to kick-off on March 23, 2019. The inaugural match will be played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Also known as IPL 12, this season will saw a battle between eight teams to win the trophy. The ending ceremony of this season will take place on May 19. The Teams are: Chennai Super Kings Delhi Capitals Kings XI Punjab Kolkata Knight Riders Mumbai Indians Rajasthan Royals Royal Challengers Bangalore Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The KXIP Journey: Making their 12th outing in all the IPL tournaments, Kings XI Punjab will be led by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The team’s total squad strength is 23 out of which 8 are overseas players. Interestingly, this season the team signed 13 new players during the auction on December 18, 2018. In October 2018, the team signed former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson as its head coach on a two-year deal.

Virendra Sehwag is the highest individual score maker for KXIP for his innings of 122 against Chennai Super Kings in 2014. David Miller of South Africa has hit the maximum number of sixes for the team with 83 sixes in 73 matches. On the other side, Shaun Marsh is the leading run scorer for KXIP till date. During his stint at KXIP (between 2008 and 2017), he scored 2477 runs in 71 matches
Ravichandran Ashwin is the captain of Kings XI Punjab for this season. He was bought by the team in the 2018 IPL Auction for INR 7.6 crores on January 2018. He was appointed as the team’s captain in February 2018. In 2018 season, Ashwin played 14 matches from the team and claimed 10 wickets. He also scored 102 with the highest score of 45 runs.
This year it’s going to be the positive momentum for the team. It was during this years’ auction, the team snapped up 13 new players. Also, the team retained some of the key players like Chris Gayle, David Miller and Ravichandran Ashwin. This squad enhances the winning possibility. This year, the team is playing with a great mix of all-rounders, batsmen and bowlers. The team has a great combination of fast and spin balling attack with the availability of Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammad Shami. Also, the batting line up is very strong with the availability of Chris Gayle, David Miller and Karun Nayar.
